URINARY 2/16α ESTROGEN METABOLITE RATIO

This test measures the ratio of 2-hydroxy (E1-Estrone + E2-Estradiol) to 16 alpha- hydroxyestrone in a random urine sample. Evidence indicates that this ratio is relevant as a risk factor for estrogen-sensitive diseases including breast and cervical cancers, osteoporosis, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. Diet, dietary supplementation, and certain drugs have been shown to change the 2/16 ratio. "Favorable" alteration of the ratio has been shown to be associated with lowered recurrence of specific estrogen-sensitive diseases, and may decrease risk for developent of certain estogen-sensitive cancers.

This test is performed by Meridian Valley Laboratory and is packaged in a small kit. The test is simple to collect at home. A single urine sample is collected, packed, and shipped UPS (pre-paid) overnight, (you will not incur any out of pocket expense for shipment of the sample). All necessary instructions, shipping labels, and collection vials are provided. Test turn around time can take as long as 4 weeks, so plan early if you need these results for a doctor appointment.
