The prostate gland is located just below the urinary bladder. The base or top of the prostate is intimately connected to the urinary bladder sphincter, or valve. The urethra, or channel for voiding of urine, passes through the center of the prostate. The apex or lower end of the prostate is connected to the penis.
The prostate of a baby boy is about the size of a pea. By age 21-30, the normal male will have a prostate gland that weighs 20 plus or minus 6 grams, which remains constant unless benign prostatic hypertrophy begins.1 Nearly 60% of men between the ages of 40 and 59 already suffer from an enlarging prostate,2 and at 80 years of age, approximately 80% of men will have an enlarged prostate gland.3
Super Saw Palmetto/Nettle Root with beta-sitosterol combines the super critical extract of saw palmetto with a methanolic nettle root extract and boron to support a healthy prostate.38-57* The ingredient, beta-sitosterol, is the most active constituent of pygeum and interferes with the formation of prostaglandins that cause swelling in the prostate.58-60
Saw palmetto extract is included because of its favorable effects in helping maintain healthy prostate function.* Saw palmetto also acts as an alpha-adrenergic receptor inhibitor and an inhibitor of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, reducing urinary urgency and helping to regulate inflammatory actions in the prostate gland.*
Nettle root extract (Urtica dioica) has effects on the proteins that carry sex hormones (i.e. sex hormone binding globulin, SHBG), aromatase, epidermal growth factor, and prostate steroid membrane receptors, and has the anti-prostatic effect, which help maintain healthy prostate function.61,62*
CO2 Saw Palmetto extract standardized to contain 85% free fatty acids and sterols. Aqueous 20% methanolic Stinging Nettle extract contains no residual methane. The Phytosterol complex contains a natural ratio of concentrated plant sterols derived from vegetable and seed oils such as soybean, rapeseed, sunflower seed, and corn. |
