Amylase

Amylase is used as a work-up for abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Such findings characterize inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Pancreatitis is also associated with abnormalities in calcium metabolism. About 80% of subjects with acute pancreatitis have increased serum amylase within 24 hours.

This test does not require fasting. Take all medications as prescribed. Do not take your supplements the morning of the test.
