Heart failure is a condition caused by a combination of diseases or factors that damage or overwork the heart muscle, resulting in its inability to pump blood efficiently to meet the requirements of the organs of the body.
Galectin-3 is a protein which has recently been identified as a mediator of heart failure development and progression.1 It is used in conjunction with clinical evaluation as an aid in assessing the prognosis of people with chronic heart failure.2 Galectin-3 levels > 17.8 ng/mL are associated with a more progressive form of heart failure. Fasting is not required for this test. Please take all medications as prescribed.
