Adrenocorticotropic Hormone, also know as ACTH, is a test for pituitary function and is useful in evaluating adrenal gland dysfunction. ACTH levels exhibit a diurnal variation, peaking between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and reaching their lowest point between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Cortisol and ACTH levels are usually evaluated together because any change in one causes a change in the other.

Fasting is not required for this test. Always take your medications as prescribed. Do not take your supplements the morning of the test.
