The Apolipoprotein A-1 blood test is used to evaluate survival rate or risk factors for individuals with past heart attacks and peripheral vascular diseases. Apo A-1 recycles cholesterol from the tissues back to the liver for further processing. It keeps the arteries clear of plaque-forming cholesterol.

Exciting new research indicates that low Apolipoprotein A-1 blood levels may be a better indicator of arterial plaque formation (atherosclerosis) than the traditional cholesterol tests for high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL).

Like all lipid testing, Apo A1 blood testing requires a 12-hour fast. Do not eat any food or drink liquids other than water. Take your medications as prescribed. Do not take your supplements the morning of the test.

The Apo A1 test is not included in any other Life Extension® blood test panels.
