Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is produced exclusively by cells of the prostate gland. Used in conjunction with the digital rectal examination, total PSA is a useful screening test for both benign prostate enlargement and prostate cancer development.

Free PSA is a newer evaluation for prostate health. This test is used to measure the percentage of free PSA relative to the total amount. Although not used as an initial screening test, a lower percentage of free PSA might mean your doctor needs to do a further workup.

Total and Free PSA is a stand-alone test and is not included in any other Life Extension® panel. This test does not require fasting.
