Are you worried about developing cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, arthritis or cancer?  A key new biomarker is on the stage to help you gain an accurate picture of your risk for these degenerative diseases and it’s called Galectin-3

We all know what happens when we cut ourselves…our skin thickens and the healing process forms a scar. But what about internal scarring due to inflammation? Our bodies react in the same way they do when we cut ourselves, forming excess tissue. But remember, there is no cut….only inflammation! This internal scarring process is called fibrosis, which can stiffen tissue and damage organs…especially the heart!

Fibrosis of the heart can lead to heart failure which means the heart isn’t strong enough to pump blood and oxygen through your body. Heart failure does not mean the heart stops beating!  In 2012 the CDC estimated that 5.8 million people in the United States have heart failure and is one of the most common reasons people aged 65 and over are hospitalized.1 Since we know that Galectin-3 causes fibrosis, it’s imperative for you to take this simple blood test to identify early stages of heart failure…while there is still time to intervene!

Another well-known function of Galectin-3 is its role in the formation and metastasis of cancerous tumors. It serves as the main mechanism by which cancers grow rapidly and spread throughout your body. Since Galectin-3 can actually trigger the harmful changes which increase your risk for cancer, it’s a blood test that you don’t want to do without!

Concerned with longevity and quality of life?  In 2011, a groundbreaking Galectin-3 study involving over 8,000 people was presented at a European conference. The results of this study showed that elevated serum Galectin-3 increased overall mortality three-fold in the general population.2 So not only is Galectin-3 a valuable biomarker for early stage, symptomless heart disease and cancer it is important for everyone who is concerned with their quality of life!

B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a small protein secreted by the ventricles of the heart in response to excessive stretching of the heart muscles cells (myocytes). BNP is secreted into the blood when your heart is working hard.

This blood test is a useful marker of heart disease risk, even in people with no clinical evidence of cardiovascular disease. High blood levels of BNP predict the risk for heart failure, first cardiovascular events, atrial fibrillation, and stroke.

Fasting is not required. Take all medications as prescribed.
