The Codex Meeting in Bonn is coming up fast (October 7-11).
Please fax this in to Moore at FDA, to the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee. Also to your own Senators and
Congressmen. For a list of Congressional email addresses,
get a copy of US Congress Handbook or visit their home page
at http://www.idsonline.com/business/usch.
There isn't enough time left this session of Congress to
get a hearing, but we need to push for one next session and
begin now to really push for it.
If you are outside the US, please fax this to our
government anyway, and please draft your own form letter
for the same purpose and send it to your Codex delegate(s).
If you don't know the name of the Codex delegate for your
country, please look it up in our web
site Please help distribute this form letter
to as many people as possible and help educate them as to
the nature of the problem.
I will be part of the American Codex delegation to the
meeting in Bonn, and am getting this letter to all of our
delegates, and am also sending it to the Codex Alimentarius
Commission in Rome. I am also sending it to the members of
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I am sending it to
the Clinton administration, but am also sending it to other
Presidential candidates. The goal is to educate as many
people as possible who might be able to help somehow. My
goal is not to alienate Dr. Moore of the FDA. I am not
"going over his head." He is just doing his job, and will
be the leader of the delegation I'm on. He should be
treated with respect.
Thanking You in Advance,
John Hammell
CODEX THREAT TO WORLD HEALTH 9/15/96
NO TO GERMAN, FRENCH, CANADIAN PROPOSALS

Dear Dr. Moore:
The German proposal currently before the UN/WHO's Codex
Alimentarius Commission poses a grave threat to public
health all over the world. Dr. Matthias Rath, the vitamin C
researcher who proved the link between ascorbate deficiency
and heart disease wrote a letter to German Chancellor Kohl
urging that the Codex meeting (October 7-11, 1996) not be
allowed to be held on German soil, because if the German
proposal to restrict consumer access to strictly RDA levels
of nutrients were to become the Codex standard, it would be
tantamount to global genocide.
In his letter to Kohl, Rath discussed the fact that this
draconian German proposal is being instigated by three
manufacturers of heart medication who don't want the public
to learn of his nutritional protocol for preventing and
reversing heart disease. Rath discussed the fact that
Bayer, Hoechst and BASF were formed following the breakup
of IG Farben, which was disbanded following the Nuremburg
War Trials for their role in manufacturing the poison gas
used in the Nazi concentration camps during World War
2.
While we are sending this to you, copies are also being
sent to all members of the American Codex delegation, and
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in hopes that Senate
Hearings can be held to better understand how we, as
Americans, can best defend our health freedoms in the face
of this international threat to undermine them. We urge
that the GATT and NAFTA treaties be repealed. The WTO and
Venzuela have forced the US to either make changes in the
Clean Air Act so that dirty pollution causing gasoline can
be sold in the US, or we would face multi million dollar
trade sanctions. Will the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act be
WTO's next target as the multinational pharmaceutical
industry seeks control over dietary supplements?
We urge the US delegation to totally reject the German,
French and Canadian positions on how dietary supplements
(including herbs) would be regulated. We urge that the US
delegation reject any scheme for establishing maximum
potencies for dietary supplements tied to RDI's, DRV's or
any other contrived reference value which we regard to be
fraudulent and against the best interest of
consumers.
We would like the FDA to work with us to create a rational
framework for international trade in high potency vitamins,
minerals, amino acids, trace elements, herbs, botanicals
and other dietary supplements in which these products would
be regulated as foods not drugs!!!
We thank you for your concern about not only the public
health of Americans, but also for being leaders in
defending consumer access to dietary supplements world
wide, and we look forward to a dialogue with you and with
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on this very
important international trade issue.
