Bridging the Gap Between

Physicians learn about new discoveries at scientific conferences, from medical journals and on the Internet. While there is nothing wrong with the short-term use of these acid-blocking drugs, long-term stomach acid deficiency results in the overproduction of a hormone called gastrin.
Gastrin is the agent that signals the stomach to produce more acid. When these drugs block acid production, too much gastrin is generated in a futile attempt to induce acid production. The problem is that there are gastrin receptors onthe membranes of many esophageal, pancreatic and gastric cancer cells.
