Investigators at University of Jordan Describe Findings in Pharmacology

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Drug Week -- Fresh data on Drugs and Therapies are presented in a new report. According to news reporting originating in Amman, Jordan, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, "Endometriosis is one of the most frequent gynecological diseases. In addition to their side effects, available medical therapies may decrease fertility."

The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from the University of Jordan, "Current understanding of endometriosis focuses on the role of the immune system in its pathophysiology. Recent research shed light on the immunomodulatory effect of vitamin D-3. Thus, this study was designed to study the effect of vitamin D-3 on regression of endometriotic implants in a rat surgical model. Vitamin D-3 reduced cyst cross sectional area by 48.8%. Histologically, vitamin D treatment produced fibrosis as well as apoptosis in the stroma."

According to the news reporters, the research concluded: "The results of the present study suggest that vitamin D-3 administration may have a beneficial effect in treating endometriosis."
