Caffeine hit boosts exercise

HEADING to the gym later? You might want to enjoy a cup of coffee beforehand.

A new study in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, found athletes who ingested caffeine before they started to exercise burned about 15% more calories for three hours after their gym session, compared to those who took a placebo.

The dose that triggered the effect was 4.5mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight, which, for an average person, is equivalent to one normal cup of coffee.
