The skin is the largest organ in the human body weighing approximately ten pounds and covering an area of about 16 square feet. People often take skin for granted and tend not to take optimal care of it. Our skin is responsible for protecting our internal organs from the toxic external world. Our skin protects us from heat, cold, and physical injuries. It also provides us with sensory information about the nature of the external world, and is our first defense against invasion by bacteria, viruses, and other toxic elements. The skin is also an excretory organ, removing toxins from the body via perspiration.
The skin, as the outermost barrier of the body, is exposed to various sources of oxidative stress, in particular UV-irradiation and environmental toxins such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, etc. Internally, the skin is attacked like any other organ, through processes involving glycation (protein cross-linking), collagen-elastin degradation, and free radical-induced injury.1
Scientists have known for years that the body rejuvenates itself while you sleep. Only recently, however, have they discovered that the skin is also involved in a restorative process during the nighttime hours. This realization led to the development of Ultra RejuveNight®, a skin cream with nutrients that revitalize your skin tone while enhancing elasticity and reducing the appearance of creases. Far more than a moisturizer, it contains potent antioxidants and other ingredients that work together to form a product of unique effectiveness.
This unique formulation also includes DHEA, melatonin, and progesterone, hormones present in the skin that decline with age. These hormones affect how sunlight reacts with skin cells, helping to maintain the health of the skin.
Topical progesterone has been used for many years as a means of increasing one’s systemic progesterone levels. However, by increasing levels of progesterone in the skin cells by using a cream containing at least 1% progesterone, there is noticeable improvement in skin elasticity and crease reduction, with an increase in skin firmness.
The British Journal of Dermatology (Sept. 2005) described results from a double blind study suggesting that topical progesterone creams increase elasticity and firmness in the skin of postmenopausal women—with minimal absorption into circulation, good tolerability, and no serious side effects.27
In addition, DHEA boosts the skin’s immunity and protects delicate blood vessels, while reducing the amount of a destructive cytokine known as tumor necrosis factor. Moreover, melatonin provides a shield against ultraviolet radiation and can help with burned skin. Since melatonin is secreted at night by the pineal gland, applying Ultra RejuveNight® at bedtime supplies an effective dose of this hormone at the same time that the body is used to having it. Progesterone may help the skin maintain its healthy structure.
All of these nutrients, as well as white and green tea extracts, vitamins C and E, alpha lipoic acid, beta glucan, RNA, DMAE, sodium hyaluronate, Ceraphyl® NGA, panax ginseng root, and others, are transported to the skin’s lower layers by a revolutionary liposome delivery system called QuSome®. By eliminating the solubility problems of the cream’s nutrients, it ensures the maximum availability of the formulation. |
