Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a protein produced by the thyroid gland. Thyroglobulin combines with iodine to produce the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Tg also serves as a protein storehouse for iodine and inactive thyroid hormones until these substances are needed.
