April 12--For the third consecutive year, Boulder had the lowest obesity percentage of any metro area in the U.S., according to a Gallup-Healthways poll released Thursday.

Boulder had a 12.5 percent obesity rate in 2012 according to the poll, which surveyed 189 metro areas. It was slightly higher than Boulder's obesity rate in 2011 -- 12.1 percent -- but still less than half the national obesity rate of 26.2 percent.

Charlottesville, Va., was the only other metro area under 15 percent at 14.3 percent. Fort Collins-Loveland at 16.5 percent, Denver-Aurora at 17.8 percent and Colorado Springs also made the top 10.

In another three-peat, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas, once again had the largest percentage of obesity, at 38.5 percent, though that is down slightly from the 38.8 percent obesity rate it posted in 2011.

The poll is based on interviews with almost 250,000 people 18 and older.
