July 29--Nova Diabetes Care is recalling 21 lots of Nova Max Glucose Test Strips because they may falsely report abnormally high glucose. Such a false reading could, under certain conditions, lead to insulin dosing errors, a serious health risk.
Nova Max Plus glucose meter kits that include test strips from the recalled lots are also included in the recall, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Those using the product should discontinue use immediately, according to the FDA.
Customers can check to confirm if they have blood glucose test strips from the affected lots online or by contacting Nova Diabetes Care customer service at 1-800-681-7390.
The FDA is encouraging patients and health-care professionals to report adverse events or side effects related to use of the recalled test strips to the FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program. Complete and submit the report online.
